British saxophonist and composer Jamie Michael Harris has released his much-anticipated new single, “Bounce.” Building on the momentum of his well-received debut EP, Departure, Harris expands his musical vision with a track that integrates elements of electronica, advanced jazz harmony, and modern production.
“Bounce” draws on a wide array of influences, including Robert Glasper, J Dilla, Aphex Twin, Sampha, and Herbie Hancock. Harris brings these inspirations together in a contemporary jazz context, using sophisticated arrangements and modern grooves to create a distinctive sound.
Jamie Michael Harris wrote the track and performs on saxophone, piano, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, EWI, clarinet, and flute. The single was mixed and mastered by Guy Massey, a Grammy-winning engineer known for his work with The Beatles, Kylie Minogue, and The Divine Comedy.
Born in Leicester and now based in London, Harris has an extensive background, including collaborations with figures such as Nile Rodgers, Prince Buster, Eddie Henderson, Gary Bartz, Dr. John, and Quincy Jones. A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, Harris combines technical skill and a diverse range of influences, from Weather Report and Miles Davis to Paul Simon and Randy Newman.
